Conventions of music videos

Music coventions in indie/Rock

- the band is normally shown throughout the video, set up in a  stage,/could                                                    be performing for crowd.  

- Use of extreme close up and long shots

- Dark locations

- Face paint

- Some use of special effects

some examples such as : kiss, Kings of leon, You me at six, Blink 182

Music conventions in Hip Hop videos

- Locations tend to be shot at a house party, club or basement.

- Use of alcohol normally a known brand such as Crystal 

- Clothing, brand names such as Gucci 

- Expensive cars and houses, sometimes yachts are used

- Attractive girls normally dressed to challenege idelogy of woman

- Long camera shots to show money, close up to show expensive jewellery and assets that artist may have

- Rarely follows story line but genre instead

- Artist(s) usually included in the video

Examples such as: J cole, Drake, Lil wayne, 50 cent, Ice T, Snopp dogg and Dr Dre

Music convention in Pop Videos

- Bright colours

- Close up used to show a happy cheerfull emotions

- Exteme close to show purity and innocence of the artist, usally fully clothed

- Aim towards teenage audience

- Upbeat, includes teenagers too
Examples such as: Justin beiber, Brittney Spears, Hannah Montanna, Katy perry and Michael Jackson
